Climate Adaptation Forums
The Sonoma County Adaptation Forums are presented by an alliance of non-profits, agencies, and businesses working together to increase awareness of climate impacts to Sonoma County and strategies for climate resilience.
2015 Sonoma Adaptation Forum
The North Bay Climate Adaptation Initiative, in partnership with the RCPA and many other community partners, held the first Sonoma County Adaptation Forum on April 8, 2015, at the Sonoma State University Student Center in Rohnert Park. This event was a local complement to the California Adaptation Forum and National Adaptation Forum.
This public forum – a first of its kind to be held at a county level – brought together individuals from across a wide spectrum of sectors and disciplines who are working to ensure that Sonoma County remains vibrant and resilient in a changing climate.
The more than 200 attendees explored new and innovative approaches for adapting to climate change. Participants included scientists, winery owners, land managers, water experts, environmental advocates, educators, local government officials, students, business leaders and policymakers.
Additional presentations and videos from the Forum are archived at sonomacountyadaptation.org.
Climate Resilience Roadmap Workshop
In May of 2015, to build from the momentum generated by the Sonoma Adaptation Forum, the RCPA and Forum organizers convened a day-long workshop to discuss how to respond effectively to climate hazards facing Sonoma County. The event brought together 88 leaders from various public and private perspectives, who together laid the groundwork for a Road Map to become more resilient to climate change as a community. Specifically the workshop was used to identify nine goals for climate adaptation that have since been adopted by the RCPA Board:
